USPA NEWS - Ballast Nedam has signed a contract for the installation of foundations at the German EnBW Baltic 2 offshore wind farm with ARGE BALTIC 2 Foundations, a joint venture between HOCHTIEF Solutions AG, GeoSea N.V. and HOCHTIEF Offshore Crewing GmbH.
Ballast Nedam will erect the project´s 39 monopile and transition piece foundations and provide the logistics between the feeder ports in Rostock and Lubmin and the Baltic 2 offshore wind farm.

The EnBW Baltic 2 offshore wind farm is the second offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. The wind farm is located about 32 km north of Ruegen Island in the western part of the Baltic Sea. With a total of 80 wind turbines of 3.6 MW each, EnBW Baltic 2 will have a total capacity of 288 MW.
For installing foundations at the Baltic 2 offshore wind farm, Ballast Nedam will use its Heavy Lift Vessel (HLV) Svanen. Installation strategy is based on the feeder concept bringing foundation components to the HLV Svanen at the installation site. This method has been optimized over recent years resulting in highly efficient installation cycles. To date, HLV Svanen has successfully installed nearly 400 offshore wind turbine foundations.

At the Baltic 2 offshore wind farm, the HLV Svanen will install some of the heaviest monopiles known in the industry to date. Installation works for the vessel at Baltic 2 are planned for the second half of this year.
The project fits perfectly in the strategy of Ballast Nedam which is aimed to deliver cost efficient foundation solutions to the offshore wind industry. By optimizing logistic and installation solutions, Ballast Nedam is supporting the general development of offshore wind in Europe. After the installation works at the Baltic 2 offshore wind farm the HLV Svanen will head for the installation of foundations at the Butendiek offshore wind farm in the German North Sea. The foundations at the Butendiek offshore wind farm will be designed, supplied and installed by Ballast Nedam.

Ballast Nedam engages in integrated projects in The Netherlands in four areas of work: housing, mobility, energy and nature. Within this area we focus on the niche markets: industrial construction, offshore wind turbines, secondary raw materials and alternative fuels. In a number of areas of expertise, we also operate internationally. The Ballast Nedam share is included in the Amsterdam Small Cap Index (AScX) of NYSE Euronext.

Ballast Nedam creates enduring quality combined with lower life cycle costs for its customers and society.
