THE MOBILISATION OF FRENCH LAWYERS CONTINUES PENDING THE COMMITMENTS MADE BY

After being received today by the Minister of Justice, President of the National Bar Council, the President of the Conference of Presidents and President of the Bar of Paris jointly call for maintaining the unitary mobilisation in all the bars up 'in the general assembly of NBC this October 23rd.

Christiane Taubira, Keeper of the Seals, Minister of Justice today received the President of the National Bar Council, the President of the Conference of Bar Presidents and the President of the Bar of Paris, are discussing the reform of legal aid.
The Justice Minister said that the Government has increased each year the budget for legal aid, which rose from € 275 million in 2010 to € 375 million in 2015 and € 405 million in 2016. At the same time, the Government abolished the fee of 35 € created under the previous five years and has filled this loss in revenue in the budget abundant legal aid of € 60 million.
Moreover, the Minister noted the need and urgency for reform of legal aid, to ensure its sustainability.
She stressed that she had, since appointed at Vendome (Ministry of Justice Place Vendome in Paris), taken initiatives to this reform, constantly postponed, or committed and that discussions had been held for several years in the Ministry of Justice, representatives of lawyers had recently interrupted. The representation of the legal profession has agreed to resume these discussions without delay, both in terms of remuneration of the lawyers on the participation of the profession to finance the modernisation of justice."
