Low unemployment in Spain to 2011 levels

USPA NEWS - Unemployment in Spain fell in the third quarter of this year 298,200 people, to a total of 4,850,000 unemployed. The unemployment rate fell 1.2 points to 21.18% of the working population, at levels of 2011.

According to the Labour Force Survey published by the National Statistics Institute (INE in its Spanish acronym) of Spain, the number of employees during the third quarter increased by 182,200 people, leaving the total number of workers employed in 18,848,700. This is the biggest rise in the third quarter since 2006. The INE explained that the number of employed rose less than unemployment fell because the labor force-the number of citizens of working age decreased 116,000.

Also it decreased the number of households with all members unemployed. 1,572,900 households are in this situation, 84,600 less than in the previous quarter. Of these over 1.5 million households with all members unemployed, 358,400 are single. By contrast, the households with all members busy increased 172,400 to a total of 9,466,000. Regarding the occupation of foreigners, their number increased in September in 2,229, 0.14% more than in August, a total of 1,645,874. The most numerous foreign workers come from Romania (291,601), Morocco (190,821), China (93,696) and Italy (77,241). It is reduced, however, the number of foreign workers from Latin American countries, because many of them returned to their country during the years of crisis.
