A NEW STRATEGY IN ALPINE REGION (FRANCE) WILL DEPLOYS NEW MEANS OF CONNECTIVITY AND TRANSPORTATION : ECO FRIENDLY PROJECTS---------------------------This will involve resources deployed in transportation, communication and infrastructure, and sustainable development based on natural and cultural resources valuing the region.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “I welcome the adoption today by the European Commission of a communication on the EU strategy for the Alpine region. It was a goal that France and its alpine partners (Germany, Austria, Italy, Liechtenstein and Switzerland) supported for several years. This macro-region, the unique geographical and natural features, has 48 regions including 3 French. Located in the heart of Europe, it is one of the most dynamic regions and concentrates a high potential for innovation and competitiveness. The aim of the strategy is to deepen cooperation to benefit more than 70 million Europeans to address key challenges such as mobility, protection of alpine biodiversity, high vulnerability to climate change and the aging population. This is to develop projects for sustainable growth and innovation, connectivity for all, both in terms of transport and communication infrastructure, and sustainable development based on natural and cultural resources of the region. I will be very attentive to what the General Affairs Council, in which I represent France, adopt as soon as possible. Alongside the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Franche-Comté and Rhône-Alpes, the Government is fully mobilised for the rapid implementation of this strategy which should help meet the challenges the country is facing downhill.“ Stated Harlem Desir, French Secretary of State for European Affairs
