USPA NEWS - June 30th, 2023 Morning Update:
Due to weather conditions, today's scheduled Snowbirds practice over the Halifax Harbour has been cancelled. A decision on the much anticipated Canada Day performance will be made after the team meets to discuss the upcoming weather forecast for July 1st and determine if conditions will be suitable to proceed with the production.
June 30th, Evening Update:
Due to the current forecast, the Canada Day show over Halifax Harbour has been cancelled.
Since the original announcement on April 26th, 2023 there has been much buzz and excitement throughout the region. In a statement on social media, MCpl Matthew MacKenzie said, "We're thrilled to announce that we will be performing in Halifax, on July 1st for Canada Day! The team is excited to return to Nova Scotia after 3 years for this important event. The Facebook statement went on to say, "This is not a flyby or a Non-Aerobatic display, it will be a full show over the harbour! Weather depending, we're hoping to do our high show! As a way of enhancing efficiency and reaching as many Canadians as possible our 2023 schedule is designed to reduce the number of transit hours. Since the first half of our air show season is done in the Maritimes, it made sense to perform Halifax for Canada Day rather than transit to Ottawa and back. We would like to thank the City of Halifax and CFB Halifax for their tremendous support."
This is the second engagement for the Canadian Forces Snowbirds in the Maritime provinces to be cancelled due to poor weather conditions. On Father's Day weekend the beloved demonstration team were unable to practice or perform in Moncton, New Brunswick due to Mother Nature's lack of cooperation.
In a morning Facebook statement on July 1st, Cpl Avery Philpott said, "It's with great disappointment that we have to cancel today's Canada Day performance over the Halifax Harbour due to poor visibility. Come and see our team members at Sackville landing at noon for a meet and greet! "
