USPA NEWS - Spaniards will be able to go out without a mask from this Saturday, as approved by the Government last Thursday in an extraordinary meeting. The purpose of the masks is limited to the open air and provided that a minimum safety distance of 1.5 meters can be kept but, after a year and a half of restrictions, the measure has been received with relief by the citizens.
With the arrival of the heat, the use of the mask became torture for many Spaniards who, forced to wear it for endless hours, suffered respiratory problems. The 'liberation' is partial: reduced only to the streets and on the condition that they carry a mask in their pocket in case they have to enter a business or stop to talk with an acquaintance. Because, even if they are outdoors, if they enter a shop, an official dependency, public transport or establish a conversation with another person, the use of the mask is still mandatory.
It is not so when people who walk, among cohabitants, or when the safety distance of 1.5 meters is maintained. The Spanish Government believes that the current situation of the pandemic, with an incidence of the Coronavirus below 100 positives per 100,000 inhabitants, allows the restrictions to be relaxed and to move forward in search of normality that was lost in March 2020.
Spaniards have received the announcement of the end of masks in the street with a diversity of opinions: in front of those who impatiently await the arrival of Saturday to get rid of the uncomfortable garment that covers their mouths, there are those who promise to continue using it for a while to ensure immunity against disease.
And it is that only 15 million Spaniards have been vaccinated totally or partially, with the complete schedule or with only one dose of the two necessary. There is still a long way to go to reach 70% of the vaccinated population, which will make it possible to achieve herd immunity. The forecast of the Spanish Government is that this immunity is reached by the end of this summer.
